SnowSkool to Sponsor Interschools Events

The School SnowSports Development Foundation of Victoria and NSW Interschools Snowsports are pleased to announce SnowSkool as a new sponsor of the Interschools and skiing & snowboarding at school level throughout Australia.

Each year Interschools events attract around six thousand competitors to the major ski resorts of NSW and Victoria, making it the largest competitive snow event in the southern hemisphere.  Students of ages and levels of ability are encouraged to enter, with an emphasis on fun and participation.

SnowSkool was founded in the UK in 2003 and operates a range of ski and snowboard instructor training courses at the world-class Canadian resorts of Sunshine Village, Banff and Big White, British Columbia, in beautiful Cardrona, New Zealand and in the world’s largest ski area, The Three Valleys in France.  A key part of SnowSkool’s sponsorship will be to offer a full scholarship to enable one Australian school student to attend an 11 or 13 week SnowSkool instructor training course each year in Canada.

The fit between InterSchools and SnowSkool is perfect, according to Rob Osborne, GM of Victoria’s School SnowSports Development Foundation.   “The Interschools racing programs give kids and their families the chance to develop their love of snow sports in the spectacular alpine environment.  SnowSkool’s involvement will provide the opportunity each year for one lucky student to take this passion further and perhaps even pursue a career in the industry.”

Phil Purdie, director of SnowSkool, agreed, “It’s almost like SnowSkool picks up where the Interschools leaves off.  Our courses give participants a life-enhancing experience in some of the most beautiful places on earth and all lead to internationally-recognised ski and snowboard instructor qualifications.  Our courses are specially designed for young people taking time out – from school, from study, from work – and are about embracing their sport, pushing their boundaries and emerging at the other end with greater confidence and self-awareness…as well as being a fantastic skier/ snowboarder!  SnowSkool courses blend adult supervision with the encouragement for the students to find their own two feet and skills learned at SnowSkool spill over into everyday life.”

SnowSkool appointed a local representative in 2007.  “Australia might be the driest continent on earth but that doesn’t stop Aussies loving their snows sports!’ said Marion Fagan, SnowSkool Australia Sales and Marketing Manager.  “The involvement by young Australians in SnowSkool programs has more than tripled each year for the past three years and it’s pleasing to know that some of our local skiers and boarders are among the strongest performers at each SnowSkool course.  We are really looking forward to welcoming our first trainee from Interschools to Canada in January 2012.”

Rob Osborne confirmed, “The SnowSkool traineeship won’t necessarily go to the fastest racer each year – it will go to the most suitable candidate. Students will be asked to apply and put the case as to why they deserve to be considered and how they would make the most of the opportunity to take their involvement in snow sports to the next level.”
